Salutation
Assalamualaikum wr
wrb/Good afternoon everybody.
First of all, I would like to say
thanks for chance that is given to me to be a moderator in this forum right
now. Well, in this opportunity, I want to share about ‘teaching Vocabulary by
playing games’.
Content
As we know,
vocabulary is one of the things that has important role in studying English.
When we are
teaching vocabulary, we must make sure our students are not only able to pronounce
the word well but also able to write it.
I usually teach
vocabulary to my students by playing games. The game that I played is named;
·
Calling
me please
The
purpose of this game is to make students are able to memorize and pronounce the
words.
Right
now, I will try to apply the game.
For
example our lesson today is about transportation.
The
vocabularies are;
Ambulance Boat Bicycle Car Fire engine
Helicopter Hot air balloon Parachute Pedicab Plane
Race
car Scooter Train Tram Subway
1.
The
teacher gives the name of transportation to each student.
2.
The
teacher helps students to memorize the word by calling their name
(Teacher
says in Indonesia the students say in English and on the contrary).
The
student who is called her/his name must stand up. When the teacher thinks that
the students can memorize the word, let them to play by their friends. In this
time, they only say the word in English without the meaning.)
3.
The
winner of this game is the students that never make mistake.
4.
When
the students make mistake, write his/her name and score of the mistake on the
white board.
After playing this game, the good
exercise is multiple choices/ draws a line.
Well,
the next games to make the students are able to write the word correctly is;
·
Arranging
the letters
1.
The
teacher gives the letter to their students.
(The
students may write the letter that they have on their note)
2.
The
teacher will say one of the words. For example: “car”. The students that have
letter c-a-r must come forward.
3.
The
teacher will limit the time. The teacher will count back, starting of
5-4-3-2-times up.
When
times-up the student may not come forward again.
4.
The
winner of this game is the students that never make mistake.
Well,
that’s the game that I usually play when teaching vocabulary to my students.
Anyway, how about the others? Do you have any games to teach vocabulary four
your students? What game is it?
Closing
Alright, that’s
enough for our discussion today. I hope the discussion can enrich our
creativity to teach so that our students feel happy and comfort to study
English in our lovely course.
Assalamualaikum
and good afternoon.
